Reviews for the Dell XPS 10 Tablet

Marathon Tablet. After Asus, Microsoft and Samsung, the spotlight now shines on Dell's Windows RT tablet PC. The XPS 10 proves to be a long-lasting performer which makes traditional notebooks look outdated, especially in terms of battery life. However, the offered performance comes at a high price.

The Dell XPS 10 is one of the finest Windows RT devices we've seen, and comes at an attractive price. However, it's certainly a secondary device that can only complement another full-form device. If you're looking for a proper, singular upgrade, a full-fat Windows device is still your only option.

Review: Dell XPS 10 Tablet (32GB, keyboard bundle)
Source: PC World
The XPS 10 is a decent implementation of a Windows 8 RT hybrid tablet, though that isn't necessarily saying much. The run time with the dock is simply spectacular, however, and the versatility of the two-part design could make up for other shortcomings. Other than that, it's down to whether the form factor is right for you and whether the apps and software you want are available for RT.

As a mobile blogger's tool the XPS 10 is a much more flexible solution than a Chromebook, thanks to its ability to work perfectly well online or offline, and within that tablet/laptop middle ground it also beats Android hybrids for more serious, everyday jobs.

A cute and attractive hybrid tablet/laptop with a great keyboard dock attachment, good performance and fantastic battery life, the Dell XPS 10 is let down by the poor build quality of its tablet’s rear. Aside from that, there doesn’t seem too much reason to go for a Windows RT convertible when you can get a ‘proper’ Windows 8 hybrid for less, though the XPS 10 does offer an unparalleled typing experience as clamshell convertibles go.

Review: Dell XPS 10 Windows RT tablet and dock
Source: Reg Hardware
For £629 – the cost of a 64GB XPS 10 and the dock – you expect a very well made and powerful bit of kit, and the Dell doesn’t disappoint. The screen performs better than the written specification would lead you to believe, but the bonkers battery arrangement will make for some moments of profound annoyance when you want your undocked tablet to work but it won’t for lack of battery charged. The problem with Windows RT is that it doesn’t offer anything that Windows 8 proper doesn’t – quite the contrary – which makes me feel it should be rather cheaper than it is, even if the hardware feels up to the price point. I rather like the XPS 10, but I’d like a Windows 8 Pro version for the same price even more.

Judged as a rival for Android hybrid tablets or Apple's iPad, the XPS 10 has potential. However, we suspect many potential buyers will simply regard it as a 'failed' Windows 8 device, and look elsewhere.

Tablet computers are the craze nowadays. First popularized by Apple with their iPads, other consumer electronics companies began to bring their own versions to the table. And Dell is not going to miss out on their share in the emerging market.

Xps

Introducing the Dell XPS 10: As its name suggests, it’s a 10-incher, good enough for reading, watching videos, playing games and surfing the internet. For Starbucks-dwelling bloggers or writers, you can pay more for an attachable keyboard, which also extends its battery life, essentially making it a lighter, travel-friendly laptop. The design is sleek - black with silver edges; however the build feels quite plasticky and cheap. Its weight is comparable to the current iPad model. The internal storage space is adequate and can be expanded. Decent battery life, which can be made longer by attaching the keyboard. The screen quality is also a disappointment, especially compared to its competitors, considering Dell is associated with high-quality products.

While this does not happen to everybody, there are some reports out there that the tablet freezes after attaching the keyboard. This issue can be solved by removing and reattaching it - quite a hassle in our book. Dell seems to have some catching up to do, especially if they want to compete with the similar tablet-keyboard combo by Asus. If you are someone who needs to type a lot on the go, Dell XPS 10 with its keyboard should be in your wish list. However, if you want a tablet for other reasons, this might not serve you well.
